Roy Brickey, age 79, of Sandy Hook, KY, departed this life for his heavenly home on January 30, 2022, at Community Hospice in Ashland, KY. Roy was born at Lucile, KY, on April 12, 1942 to the late William and late Rose Ethel Holbrook Brickey. He was preceded by a son, Roy Brickey Jr., two brothers, Mart and Parish, and three sisters Martha, May and Virginia.
Roy was a Christian and while he wasn’t a member of a specific church, he very much enjoyed attending several local churches in Elliott County. He loved the Lord, loved to hear the gospel preached and good singing, and when he couldn’t make it out to a local church, would often watch church on TV.
Roy is survived by his two daughters, Ramona (Larry) Bailey of Hillsboro, OH, and Rosemary (Zane) Roberts of Morehead, KY; 10 grandchildren – Kyle Brickey, Michael (Deidre) Bolin, Deanna (Brian) Peyton, Shianna (James) Keeton, Savanna Brickey, Morgen Bolin, Meggan Sloas (Glendon Goodpaster), Melony (Derek) McClellan, Ryan Bailey (Jessie Wright), Elana (Steve) Lamb; 13 great grandchildren (Arabella Eldridge, Kinsely Keeton, Eli Peyton, Emberly Brickey, Marie McClellan, Brystol Bailey, Aidan Cartwright, Sarah Lamb (Maverick Sadler), Mayson (Dillon) Hunick, Harlo Lamb, Eva Lamb, Zavier Hamilton and Zander Hamilton) and 6 great-great grandchildren (Leah, Colton and Weylyn Hunick, and Carter, Britton and Addie Jo Sadler). He is also survived by two sisters, June Montgomery and Wilma Vanhoose as well as two brothers, Walter Brickey and Donnie Brickey (Jerry Jones). Roy is also survived by two very special friends – the mother of his children, Deloris Sue Keeton, and Betty Ferguson; and a host of much beloved nieces and nephews, cousins, and friends.
Roy was an avid collector of guns and knives, and taught his children how to safely handle and respect both at an early age. Roy was also a gifted storyteller and loved to share funny stories from his childhood, his children growing up, work and life in general. During his work career, he was a machinist, millwright, pipefitter, construction worker and he also worked in the oil fields. He also is a veteran of the U.S. Navy.
Visitation and services will be held at Lewis & Ferguson Funeral Home on Wednesday, February 2, 2022. Immediate family may visit at 9 AM, and friends and family may visit from 10 AM to 1 PM with the funeral service beginning at 1 PM. Burial will be at the Wooldridge Family Cemetery at Isonville, KY, beside his son. Military service by Elliott County VFW Post 11428
Pallbearers will be Larry Bailey, Zane Roberts, Ryan Bailey, Anthony Lombardo, Ron Craig and Darren Newell. Honorary pallbearers include Walter Brickey, Donnie Brickey, Jerry Jones, Jimmy Lewis, Basil Brickey, Thurman G. Hutchinson and all his grandsons.
