Rev. Warren Gregory Vanover, Age 64, of Sandy Hook, passed away Monday, December 28, 2020 in Ashland, Kentucky surrounded by family.
Born August 18, 1956, in Ashland, Kentucky, he is the son of the late Warren G. and Francis Kouns Vanover. In addition to his parents, Warren is preceded in death by one brother, Doug Vanover.
Warren is survived by his loving wife of 44 years, Elaine Vanover; two adoring daughters, Sharon (Roy) Ison and Michelle (Brad) Kidd; five idolizing grandchildren, Griffin Hamilton, Shelby Ison, Kolten Hamilton, Kailey Hamilton, and Jackson Kidd; and two precious furbabies, Harley and Boomer, all of Sandy Hook. Also surviving are Warren’s siblings, Bill Vanover of Flatwoods, Maxine Mansfield of Lexington, Gerrie Reeves of Flatwoods, and Sheila Walker of Louisiana.
Warren grew up in Boyd County. When called to preach he and Elaine headed to Kansas City where he attended four years of seminary school. Early in his career with KY Conference of United Methodist Church, he, Elaine, and girls moved to Elliott County where he served Sandy Hook and Stark Methodist Churches for 34 years.
Warren loved to preach. He enjoyed hospital ministries, coaching high school basketball, and spending time with his family and community. Warren never missed an opportunity to witness for others whether it be in the church house or on the ball court. He enjoyed comradery with everyone he encountered. Rev. Warren Vanover was a one man support system to many, sharing his trust and comfort in Jesus Christ along the way.
In 2000, Warren became a grandfather affectionately known as “Pap” to his sidekick Griffin Chase. He cherished his time spoiling his grandchildren. He enjoyed cheering them on from the sidelines, but also coaching them. Although passionate about basketball, Pap also taught them the value of hard work with a weed eater. Most importantly, he taught them about our Lord and Savior.
Warren was a member of Green Hill Masonic Lodge #521, preacher, coach, friend, family, witness, neighbor, and luckily for everyone, he was a CHILD OF GOD.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, December 31, 2020 at 1:00pm at Lewis and Ferguson Funeral Home in Sandy Hook with Rev. Kyle Vanover and Bro. Brian Flannery officiating. Burial will follow at Golden Oaks Memorial Garden in Ashland.
Visitation will be held from 6:00-9:00pm on Wednesday, December 30, 2020 at the funeral home.
