Opal Salyers Porter Lewis of Bruin, KY surrounded by her family peacefully went home to be with her Lord on July 18, 2020.
She was born July 13, 1931 at Ison Creek, KY to the late J.T. (Tommy) and Mary (Jane) Johnson Salyers.
She was a born again Christian and a 67 year member of the Upper Bruin Baptist Church where she took membership Sept. 5., 1953. She was also preceded in death by two husbands: Raymond (Ray) Grant Porter and Elder Beecher Lewis; two children: Donald Ray Porter and Sue Prewitt, one granddaughter, Shelly Dickerson and two brothers Walter and Proctor Salyers.
Opal is survived by five children: James (Jim) and Lea Porter of Sandy Hook, KY; Kathy and George Thornberry of Sandy Hook, KY; Gary and Gayle Lewis of The Villages of Florida, Michael and Sandy Lewis of Sandy Hook, KY and Noreen and Randy Clemens of Florence, KY and her beloved son in law, Phillip Prewitt of Sandy Hook, KY. One sister, Plura Middaugh of Atlanta, GA. Two brothers: Bill & Jeanette Salyers and James and Violet Salyers both of Sandy Hook, KY. She was the beloved grandmother of 19 grandchildren, 30 great grandchildren and 2 great-great grandchildren and many other family and friends.
Funeral will be conducted Wednesday, July 22, 2020 at 11:00 AM at Lewis & Ferguson Funeral Home at Sandy Hook, KY with Jimmy Porter, Michael Lewis, Brad Prewitt, Delmaine Griffith and Lawrence Lewis officiating. Burial will be at the Elliott County Memory Gardens. Friends may call after 6:00 PM Tuesday at the funeral home.
