Norma Howard Obituary

Norma Jean Hursh Howard, 87, passed away on May 14, 2022 in Grayson, KY.  She was born on June 6, 1934 in Springfield, Ohio to Paul Hursh, Sr. and Amber Minshall Hursh.  She was the fourth child of six in the Hursh family.

Norma Jean graduated from Springfield High School in 1953. In her younger years, she worked at McCroy’s 5 & 10 in Springfield, Ohio. Later she worked as a teacher’s aide at Sandy Hook Elementary and finished her life as a homemaker. She also served many years as a notary public.

She was a mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, great-great-grandmother, sister, aunt, cousin and loved by many. Family was the joy of her life. Nothing made her day more than spending time with her great granddaughter, Bailee (Sissy Boo Boo) Couch, who adored her Granny Normie.

Granny also had a strong love of animals. She had many dogs and cats over the years, but none as special as her darling Roo, that recently passed at   16 years old. She talked to, rocked, and loved her cat. She also enjoyed working crossword puzzles and watching westerns.

Norma was preceded in death by her husband, Edward Howard, Jr.; two brothers, Paul (Pete) Hursh, Jr. and Larry Lee Hursh, Sr.; and one sister, Eloise Burchnell. She recently lost her beloved companion, Drexel Price of West Liberty, KY . They spent the last 35 years living their lives together and taking care of each other.

Granny is survived by two sons: Lyndon Howard (Sharon) of Georgetown, KY and Richard Hursh (Trina) of Urbana, Ohio; two daughters: Pamela Dyer of Delaware, Ohio and Denise Ison of Grayson, KY; two sisters: Elinor Wright of Springfield, Ohio and Joann Vincent of Washington Courthouse, Ohio; a sister-in-law, Agnes Hursh, of Springfield, Ohio; 6 grandchildren; 8 great-grandchildren, and 6 great-great-grandchildren. She was particularly close to her granddaughter, Kelsey Couch (Bradley). Granny babysat her from the time she was born until she started school. For the past 3 months, Norma lived at the home of Kelsey and Bradley with her daughter, Denise, caring for her. She is also survived by her extended family - all the members of the Price family
