Lois Ward Obituary

Lois Jean Ward (Mason Wolfe) died on May 15, 2023, in Port Charlotte, Florida after a prolonged illness. She was born in Sandy Hook, Kentucky on June 13, 1934.  Her parents were Thelma Mae Adkins and Charles Herbert Ward.  The homestead is on Route 7 just west of Sandy Hook and still stands.  She was pre-deceased by her 4 brothers, Charles “Junie” Ward Jr, Herbert Hoover Ward, Burl Hendrix “Bub” Ward and George Mitchell Ward. She went to Elliott County High School where she played saxophone in the band.  She also went to Morehead State University in Morehead, Kentucky.  She married Marion Mason on May 3, 1952, in Sandy Hook, Kentucky.  She married William Wolfe on May 25, 1973, in Vincennes, Indiana. Her surviving children are Charles Kevin Mason (Martha) of Vincennes, Indiana and Teresa Jean Mason of Tucson, Arizona.  She was very proud of her 2 grandchildren (Courtni and Jordan) and their families.  Courtni and Daniel Webb and their daughter Susie live in Rome, Georgia.  Jordan and Leslie Mason and their son Noah live in Orlando, Florida.

Jean had many friends and great neighbors in Vincennes Indiana.  After moving to Vincennes with her family, Jean worked at Vincennes Savings & Loan for several years.  She always took special care of her young friends from Lincoln High School, especially from Kevin and Terry’s classes of 1974 and 1971.

Jean loved taking care of her yard and her flowers in Vincennes.  She also loved shopping for bargains anywhere she could find them but especially at outlets, thrift shops and antique stores. She had many friends and cousins in Kentucky and Florida.  She was especially fond of her niece Renaye Ward Sparks, daughter of Charles Ward Jr. and Lois Rose Ward.  They both loved to shop and snagged a lot of great bargains when they shopped together in Florida.

Jean always loved going back to Sandy Hook to visit cousins and friends. Jean and her daughter Terry have gone to Minnie Adkins day for several years now.  Minnie was one of Jean’s oldest and best friends.  Jean will be missed by family and friends especially on Minnie Adkins Day 2024.

Jean is interred close to her Ward and Adkins families at Elliott County Memory Gardens in Sandy Hook, Kentucky.
