Linda Kitchen Obituary

Mrs. Linda Joyce Howard Kitchen (Nanny), went home to heaven January 21, 2021.  Mrs. Kitchen was born December 16, 1948 at Blair’s Mill, Ky to Dorothy Collins Howard and the late Linville Howard.

Besides her father, she was preceded in death by one brother, Michael Howard, one daughter Donna (Susie) Miller, special friend Roberta Roller, and furbaby Lucy.

She is survived by her loving husband of 54 years, Donald (Poppy); two brothers, Racy and Sondra Howard of Springfield, Ohio, Rodney and Barbara Howard of Sandy Hook, KY; one sister, Angie Pendergrass of West Liberty, KY; one daughter Kimberly Powers of Sandy Hook, KY; two sons Tracy and Sandra Kitchen of Sandy Hook, KY and Jamie and Lisa Kitchen of Wittensville, KY; and furbaby Bud.

Nanny is also survived by seven grandchildren, Allison Sworski, Benjamin Powers, Galen Reed and wife Veronica, Willie Reed, Rachel and husband Nick Porter, Wade Kitchen, and Ryan Kitchen.  Nanny also had 4 great grandchildren, Alex Stephens, Ashton Sworski, Jaxon Porter, and Lydia (Sissy) Porter, and special great niece Bella Cameron.  Mrs. Linda is also survived by many friends, extended family, and her church family who will sadly mourn her passing.

Mrs. Linda was retired from the University of Kentucky Extension Service where she worked in the Food and Nutrition Education Program.  Throughout her career she shared her passion of cooking and preserving fresh fruits and vegetables with many families throughout Elliott County.

Together, Nanny and Poppy enjoyed gardening fruits and vegetables.  Nanny loved teaching her children and grandchildren the art of canning and freezing home grown foods.  She was often found at the Elliott County Farmer’s Market displaying her crop and visiting with others.

Mrs. Linda was a devoted Christian and had been a member of Watson Enterprise Baptist Church since 1977.  She loved her church family and was frequently found feeding large crowds during church events.

Mrs. Linda was a devoted wife, mother, sister, daughter, but her most important job was being Nanny to her grandchildren and great grandchildren as well as any other children that needed a Nanny to show them love.  She never judged anyone for what they had done or by what they had.

When you came to Nanny’s house you were always welcomed and treated like family.  She spent most of her time in her kitchen. That’s where she felt most comfortable, preparing food for her family, friends, neighbors or anyone else that was hungry.

Mrs. Linda, Nanny will always be remembered for her caring spirit, fellowship, and ability to bring people together using her natural talents around a kitchen counter.
