Lena Gibson Williams Obituary

Lena Stevens Gibson Williams, age 92, loving wife, stepmother, grandmother, sister and aunt went to her heavenly home on Saturday, April 9, 2022.  She was surrounded by family that loved and adored her. Lena’s devotion to family and her firm belief in God ultimately gave her peace throughout her life and near the end.  She was a member of the Laurel Gorge Enterprise Baptist Church for 56 years, since 1966 and attended regularly when she was in Sandy Hook. She and Archie also attended the Fairborn Enterprise Baptist Church regularly while in Fairborn.

Lena was born to the late Seymoure and Arma Stevens on September 1, 1929.  She was raised in a Christian home that shaped her values and actions until the day she left us.  As an older sibling, she worked in the fields alongside her dad and helped her mom with the younger children, of whom she adored.  She often and lovingly shared stories of growing up that captivated whoever was listening.  She was married to Rollie (Bass) Gibson until he died of cancer in 1976.  They lived in Dayton, Ohio and worked for General Motors until retirement.  Several years after his passing, Lena had the great privilege of marrying Archie Williams, whom she spent the rest of her life with (32 years).  Lena had no biological children but she graciously and lovingly accepted Archie’s children and grandchildren as her own and was also known to dote on her nieces and nephews like they were her children.  Lena enjoyed traveling more than the average person and was blessed to be able to do so throughout her life.  Among some of the places she visited was the Holy Land and all 50 of the United States; she made regular visits to Florida and spending the winters there with Archie made her happy.  They both enjoyed fishing and sharing their catch with friends and families with a fish fry when they returned home in the spring.

In addition to her parents, Lena was preceded in death by her first husband, Rollie (Bass) Gibson – Dayton, Ohio, four sisters – Lorene Rice (Kenneth) – Astor, Florida, Kathleen Howard (Orear) – Sandy Hook, KY, Thelma Carter (Atlee) – Dayton, Ohio, Evelyn Carter (Jack) – Sandy Hook, KY and sister-in-law, Della Stevens – Sandy Hook, KY;  one brother – John Henry Stephens (Mable) – Sandy Hook, KY and brother-in-law James Howard – Morehead, KY.

Those left to cherish Lena’s memory include her loving husband, Archie Williams – Fairborn, Ohio, two sisters – Linda Hill (Dave) – Fairborn, Ohio and Elizabeth Howard – Morehead, KY, two brothers – Leroy Stevens (Ruth Ann) and Talmadge Stevens (Arlene) both of Sandy Hook, KY.  Additional survivors include two daughters Melissa Sprouse (Mike) of Fairborn, Ohio, Rhonda Baab (Mike) of Xenia, Ohio, four grandchildren – Lindsey Akers (Dana) – Fairborn, Ohio, Whitney Dearth – Enon, Ohio, Caitlin and Olivia Sprouse – both of Fairborn, Ohio and four great grandchildren Grace and Riley Akers – Fairborn, Ohio, Evan and Brody Dearth – Enon, Ohio and many nieces, nephews and cherished friends that loved and adored her.
