Herman Jay Keaton

Herman Jay Keaton, of Martha, KY passed away Sunday, March 27 2022 at his residence at the age of 83.

He was born April 17, 1938  in Lawrence County, KY, the son of the late Ora Keaton and Zettie Amanda Skaggs Keaton.

Herman was employed by and retired from Ashland Oil, INC. where he worked in the oil fields for close to 30 years.

His most enjoyable sport was fox hunting. You could name the day of the week simply by listening to the bark of his beloved hounds, who impatiently awaited to be led to the chase by their master.

His primary enjoyment during a hunt was not only found in the friendships of his fellow fox hunters, but also listening to the hounds with their distinctive voices. And trying to ascertain which dog was leading the chase, or whose dog gotten off trail. The pleasure he found in this fading sport was to listen to the chorus of barks, yelps, & howls during the chase, which mostly sounded like music to his ears.

   In addition to his loving parents, he was preceded in death by his loving wife of 44 years, Charleen Gilliam Keaton, 4 special brothers; infant Elbert Keaton, Homer Keaton, Eugene Keaton, Joe Thomas Keaton and his precious twin infant grandsons, Brian Dale and Brandon Lee Keaton. Herman is survived by 4 children who loved him dearly: Herman Dale (Angie) Keaton of Martha, KY; Donna Sue (Jeffery) Ball of Elk Fork, KY; Homer Douglas (Kathy) Keaton of Martha, KY and Delena Gaye (Steven) Alley of Morehead, KY.:   Eight cherished grandchildren:  Ashley, Bradley, Wesley, Hanna, Halee, Jon, Macee, and Ethan

Five adored Great grandchildren:  Landon, Aidan, Addison, Leon, and Greyson and a host of nieces, nephews, in laws, cousins and friends.

Funeral will be conducted Wednesday, March 30, at 1:00 PM  at Lewis & Ferguson Funeral Home with Brother Norman Wright officiating. Burial at the Keaton family cemetery , Martha, KY Friends may call after 11:00 AM Wednesday at the funeral home.
