Helen Wheeler Obituary

Helen Wheeler passed from this life on Thursday, February 25, 2021, at St. Claire Medical Center.  She was born on July 4, 1938, to the late Rollie Banks and Alice Bowling Banks, and graced this earth for 82 years.

On April 18, 1979, Helen suffered a huge blow in the loss of her youngest child, Chris, at age 14 in a motorcycle accident. Other loved ones preceding her in death were her father and mother, her sister Diane Marble, and her friend and brother Stanley Banks.

She is survived by her husband Ronald.  They were married 64 years ago on January 26, 1957.  The words of Proverbs 31:5 might be used to describe their relationship.  The text reads, “A good woman is hard to find and worth far more than diamonds. Her husband trusts her without reserve, and never has reason to regret it.  Never spiteful, she treats him generously all her life long.“

Also surviving are her children, daughter Vanessa Marksberry and husband Don of Grayson; and son Ray Anthony “Tony” Wheeler of Isonville. She is further survived by grandsons Brandon Marksberry and Derrick Wheeler; a great grandson Trace Wheeler; sister-in-law Barbara Banks;  nephew Paul Banks; niece Stephanie Hardin; and a very special friend, Vilma Tackett.

Helen was a giving  person, committed and dedicated to everything in her life, namely her family, her friends, her home, and her garden.  She was a tireless worker.  Never frivolous nor wasteful, she didn’t rest until the last bean, tomato, or kernel of corn in her garden was preserved. She was the envy of many for her ability to maintain an immaculate home. She enjoyed life and had a great laugh and a warm manner that drew people to her.  She was a member of Sandy Hook United Methodist Church.

Truly, when this world lost Helen Wheeler, it lost a good woman.
