Erie Stephens Obituary

Erie Levonia (Fraley) Stephens, 92, went home to Jesus on Monday, July 20, 2020, at home in Shelbyville, Kentucky. She was born March 12, 1928 in Martha, Kentucky to the late Frank and Rutha (Barker) Fraley. The hills of Eastern Kentucky were her earthly home as she grew up, and remained so when she married James Stephens in 1957 and raised their sons.

Levonia was a member of Elizabeth Baptist Church in Martha, Kentucky since 1949. She enjoyed gardening, sewing, baking, bird-watching, reading, puzzles, cheering on the UK Wildcats basketball team and the Cincinnati Reds, and listening to music. She especially loved any opportunity to gather with family and friends. In 2011, she moved to Shelbyville, Kentucky to be with her son and his family, and became known to many as “Mamaw.” While living there, she regularly attended Christiansburg Baptist Church, where she made sweet friends.

She is preceded in death by her parents and husband, as well as her son, Phillip Stephens, and sisters, Gladys Moore and Clotine Skaggs.

She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Mark and Vivian Stephens, her grandchildren, Whitney (Stephens) and David Wooters, Hannah Stephens, Vanessa Stephens, and Markus Stephens, all of Shelbyville, Kentucky, her brother and sister-in-law, David and Phyllis Fraley, of Canal Winchester, Ohio, several sisters-and-brothers-in-law, and many beloved nieces and nephews.

Throughout her life, she always praised the Lord for the blessings she was given. She was an example of loving her family with quiet assurance, keeping a sense of humor, and enjoying the simple things in life.

Funeral services will be conducted at 12:00pm, Saturday, July 25, 2020, at Elizabeth Baptist Church in Martha, Kentucky with Keith Sturgill, Emmitt  Barker, and Harry Hebert officiating.
